- Measures taken after Boris Johnson announces lockdown
- England’s golf courses, tennis courts, gyms and pools close
Professional sport has been given the all-clear to continue despite the coronavirus alert being moved to five, the highest possible level. In addition to indoor gyms and pools, which already have to be shut under tier 4 rules, golf courses, tennis courts and outdoor gyms and pools in England must close for at least the next seven weeks under strict new lockdown rules announced on Monday night by the prime minister, Boris Johnson.
Organised team sport for under-18s is also now on hold for the foreseeable future, while indoor gyms, pools and leisure centres are also now unable to open. Indoor gyms and pools had already been forced to close under tier 4 restrictions imposed on most of England in December. However, people will be able to run and walk with one person from outside their household, once a day – while golfers in Scotland will still be able to play.
